Recognising the need for a reasonably priced quality range of composite sea kayaks here in Australia, we went out and did some serious investigating.
What we have come up with is the Scorpio Elite series, a series of three performance composite sea kayaks plus one composite double, all nicely finished but at ridiculously competitive prices.
The Elite 490 is a shorter low volume sea kayak for the smaller paddlers. Large flush hatches fore and aft allow for storing heaps of gear while resulting in almost no windage. Deep keel means beautiful tracking, and the world renowned SmartTrack pedal system means super ease of use in steering.
Construction
Deck: 2 layers of cloth plus 1 layer of felt and an extra1mm of high strength mat.
Hull: 2 layers of felt mat plus 1 layer of cloth.
Inside seam: resin + mat + rubber strip.
Outside seam: rubber strip.
